My wife and I just had our first child a little less than two weeks ago. Because of our differing work schedules, the only time we're both off is during August. If I am able to going salmon fishing at all (for now), it is going to have to be in August. It seems like the Matane is as good a choice as any. Here's my question...realistically speaking, could I drive up and find a place to stay without any reservations? I realize this might be the peak of fishing season on the river and accommodations might be booked. Being self employed, I can sometimes leave on a moment's notice, when fishing is best. I'd rather roll the dice and go at the last minute than book a specific time, if possible. Thanks

Congratulations!!!! I have not hesitated from hearing good news and traveling up to Gaspe. I don't wait until I get to my destination for the first night. If headed to Matapedia, Rene de Matane, New Richmond, Gaspe, I have a list of locations that are very close. Gaspe is a tourist location and there are many small motels. Far more is available than in the area servicing the major New Brunswick rivers.
The first two weeks in August are prime time dates for Matane. Of course it depends on the water flow and temperatures but year after year the main quantity run happens the last week of July and the first two weeks of August.

When you are ready I will give you the names and numbers needed to be comfortable and safe.
