A few weeks ago I attended the FFF casting event at The Catskill Fiy Fishing Center and Museum. Met William for the first time along with many other FFF members. William was generous to my partner and I and gave us the opportunity to cast his TFO DC 15ft 8/9wt rod with a 65ft Carron Jetstream line. Wow it that a smooth easy casting combination.
This was my first time with the line, after that event I researched more info. and found many positive comments on the web.
I have ordered two Carron Jetstream lines for my longer rods, cannot wait to test drive on the Housatonic.
Regards, FK

Hey Fred,
I am so sorry that I missed your event. It's really a great thing that you do and should be taken advantage of by all. My schedule is based in long practice sessions as I am in the final stages of taking the THCI exam.
To that end, I have added another tool to the Carron. Robert Meiser sent me a Highlander S 15 foot 9 weight. Makes the slow action of the TFO seem like an antique. Now I know that a fishing rod must do more than cast. It must fish as well and the TFO is a perfect tool for that but the Meiser with the fast recovery is a casters dream. When you get the Carron try to match it up to a Sage One or a Meiser Highlander S.
120 foot cast become basic. Jerry will push 140 no problem.

Hi William,
After watching you cast and with your dedication to practice, I am certain you will have no problem with the FFF THCI testing.
I have not cast the Meiser Highlander S, after your THCI test perhaps Jerry and I could visit you in NH and you could give us some informal coaching and experimenting. We really enjoyed the short session we had at the FFF event at the Catskill Center and Museum.
Andrew Moy of Tight Lines Fly Fishing gave a demo at our clave,,, later we spoke about the Carron Jetstream and he stated they were very good, if not the best for distance and easy casting. We also had a guest from Maine who owned 8 of the lines and really enjoyed long line fishing and casting.
I called Andrew Moy today and ordered 3 Carron Jetstream lines. 55ft 8/9 for my Sage 7136 Z-Axis and 8136 ONE rods 65ft 8/9 for a Loomis 15ft 7/8 that I will order next week 65ft 9/10 for my Sage 9140-4 GIIIe and an older Loomis 10150-3 IMX
My muscle memory is slightly brainwashed from 5+ years of short Scandi and Skagit line casting. I started 20 years ago with Windcutters and Accelerators,, the line designs have really improved over the years. Jerry changes tempo to the longer lines much faster than I can.
I also traded some older rods that were gathering dust for a TFO 14ft 6/7wt Deer Creek,,, very nice light weight rod. It fires out the Rio AFS 460gr very nicely,,, the Rio Powerspey 480gr is hit or miss with my ragged timing. The Carron Jetstream 55ft 8/9 may be too heavy for the little rod. I have a new Rio Unispey Mega Kit and should test some of those lines in addition, may try the Airflo Delta on the rod.

Fred-Thanks for the kind words but the test is off the charts hard. Every cast rolling to the fly with no fade. Perfect D loops, anchor placements, tight loops with no tracking fault, carrying 80 feet of line with no shooting for most of the test and a barrage of fault repair questions to challenge your ability to the max. I will have no shame if I fail. There are only 32 people in the entire USA who have had success since the test started in the mid 1990's.
It is meant to be hard and the people who are able to pass are those who have the time over years of study and practice to be worthy. I have the highest regard to those who stayed with it and made the grade.
One thing to remember about the Carron lines. They are not graded in the same way our US line companies list things. The 9/10 65 is more like an Airflo Delta long 8/9 or a Rio 8/9. It looks like by what you ordered that you took it into consideration.
I have the 9/10 on this rod that is a 9 weight. These are true traditional style lines that have their place on big river situations. The only time I get to fish them is in Canada for Atlantic Salmon. Try adding a floating AirFlo poly leader to the tip and a short tippet. It will shoot like a rocket.
