Hi all, Recently took an interest in lines and tips and all that goes along with designing and building them. I've been spending time doing a lot of reading about tapers, grain weights, sink rates, etc. and have been getting equipped to make my own. I've been spending time building welded loops, etc. and recently reset all of our reels, two handed and single handed. All backing now has double biminis, and all lines have welded loops fore and aft. Did 16 lines the other night, so I really am going Loopey! FF

Rick-Absolutely spectacular. Your loops look as professional as can be.
There is no way to effectively fish two hand without all lines having loops.
Did you do Skagits and Scandi's with extra piece loops? I have been using running line to make the loop and fusing it to the end of the thicker line.
Your loops really look great.

Thanks, William. How did using running line for loops work out? I did make some extra piece loops and found that using a short piece of 6 weight trout line made a good (stiffer) loop so as to avoid hinging. Am really anxious for my materials (bulk line) to come in. Got some ideas in mind that I want to experiment with.

I take the Skagit and trim with a straight razor on both sides forming a wedge. Equal Length and down to as thin as possible. Then take the thinner line and make a wedge on each end so that if you lay the line down on the table both wedges would point up.
Then use the shrink tube in the same way as a folded line and fuse the whole thing at once. Works just fine.

Rick they look like they came straight from the factory! Oh man I've got to tie my first tube fly before moving on to my own line. You guys can sure get a person inspired.

Thanks guys, it took a whole bunch of practice, but I'm happy with the results. Giving serious thought to starting up a little side-line business (for my Golden Years doing some custom lines/tips/leaders alterations and repairs as well as reel rigging. Hope to continue to learn about fly lines, invest in materials (for both SH and DH) and eventually design and build. I'm just a PM away if I can help with any needs you may have. Thanks, FF

Thanks William,
Already saw it. I do mine a little differently, but that seems to work okay.
