Featured Auction Item at Deerfield River Spey Day
Bob Colson Bamboo Spey Rod
Deerfield River Spey Day:
June 1st, 2013
Our #1 auction item for this year’s auction will be a choice of one of two custom bamboo spey rods (retail $2250.00) by maker Bob Colson. Meeting Bob in Somerset and casting his two handers was an absolute joy! Whichever rod remains after the event I will continue to use and promote. This bamboo rod is a spey casters dream rod and for anyone wanting to get into spey casting with cane, I casted them and I will fish one too this summer!
These three-piece Spey Rods included two tips and are sealed in either a scarf-joint or ferruled. Scandi (floating) heads with running lines work extremely well with these rods. Ferruled rods are sealed and varnished. Scarf-joint rods are sealed and are about 6 inches longer than ferruled rods, so a 11-foot scarf-joint is about 11 1/2 feet and a 12-foot scarf-joint is about 12 1/2 feet. Scarfed-joint rods are spliced together with clear electrical tape (included with the rod) to form an extremely tight connection. Bob Colson Spey rods included a reel seat that fits most modern reels and most of the larger ones found on the older Hardy Salmon Perfects.
11', 9 to 10 1/2 ounces, 325-375 grain line. Ideal for waking flies and unweighted wet flies up to size 2.
12', 10 1/2 to 12 ounces, 375-450 grain line. Great rod for larger wet flies. Also suitable for waking flies.

All the best,
Walt Geryk
